Michael Collins was born in Limerick, Ireland. He is a novelist, screenwriter, software developer, and elite runner.

 

He is the author of ten works of fiction which have been translated into twenty languages. He is the recipient of numerous New York Times Notable Book of the Year Awards. His novel The Keepers of Truth was shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize. He won the Best English Novel in France and was shortlisted for the IMPAC Award.

Collins has worked as a Hollywood screenwriter. He was a writer on the film Julia, starring Oscar-winning actress, Tilda Swinton which garnered numerous international film awards. He has been credited on numerous major films as a screenplay editor.

 

Collins is a world-class distance runner. He earned a bronze medal at the 2010 World 100k Championships in Gibraltar. Notable wins include The Everest Marathon, The North Pole Marathon, The Antarctic Marathon, and The Sahara Marathon.

 

Collins is a five-time USA Track and Field (USATF ) winner over 5,000 & 10,000 meters on the road and track. He represented his home country, Ireland, throughout the 200s, captaining the national team in 2010 at the World 100k Championships.

Collins earned an athletic scholarship to The University of Notre Dame. He earned a Masters from Oxford University and holds a doctorate from The University of Illinois, Chicago.

​

Collins is also an accomplished software programmer. He developed numerous award-winning medical software applications while lead software developer at Northwestern University Medical School. He has lectured extensively on Big Data and AI throughout the world at major conventions. He was employed at Microsoft Corp in Redmond.
